The rest of the story…(warning it isn’t as easy as some would have you believe, in fact without help of a savior it is impossible):
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Do not be afraid any longer, little flock,
for your Father is pleased to give you the kingdom.
Sell your belongings and give alms.
Provide money bags for yourselves that do not wear out,
an inexhaustible treasure in heaven
that no thief can reach nor moth destroy.
For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.
I love that last verse “For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be”…what is it that we really “treasure” in our lives? Of course we find that this is exactly where our heart is–our motivation, our mind, our desires.
Pope Benedict’s assertion in Jesus of Nazareth that Jesus is the Kingdom puts this passage into a different light, but one that corresponds with the rest of scripture (for example John 3:16)…The Father has given us the Son, the Son has given us the Spirit…help is there for the taking, are you and I open to receiviing it or are our hearts set on some other treasure?
