Let’s give the Holy Father some more time, but other than the firing of the editor of AMERICA, the initial returns have not been very good. His reaffirmation of Comrade Sodano as Secretary of State (the de facto pope, because of the realignment of the curia by Paul VI) and dean of the college of Cardinals and, even words, Cardinal Etchegaray as the vice-dean in particular are very disheartening. We need a lot less of more of the same.
